Joe Biden's administration, to be honest, has let Volodymyr Zelenskyy down too often in all areas. The closer Trump's inauguration came, the more Volodymyr was disappointed in the “weak position” of the indecisive grandfather and did not hesitate to speak honestly about it.
Biden, on the other hand, was constantly cunning. His administration refused to impose sanctions on Russia until after the full-scale invasion, using ludicrous excuses like: “So how can we impose sanctions if nothing has happened yet?” while Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Danilov was already wearing black, preparing the country's population for the worst so diligently that for two years no one knows where he went after he resigned. Biden was very bad at giving weapons. In the end, Biden never answered Zelensky's direct and honest question: “Why is Ukraine still not in NATO?”
The strong position of the administration of the new US President Donald Trump is quite another matter. Donald Trump has answers to all questions. "Sanctions? Does it matter that I once stopped Nord Stream, ruined everything for Putin, and if I had been president then, this war would not have started? Not enough weapons? I gave Ukraine Javelins, and Obama gave you blankets, and I gave you Javelins, and Obama gave you blankets! That's what I gave Ukraine and what Obama gave them (blankets, blankets, Jesus Christ, that idiot gave them blankets, Carl!), and no one has ever even thanked me, but they've thanked Obama, and not to mention that if I had been president then, this war would never have started. Don't you have enough air defense, you burnt-out theater actor? Why the fuck did you start the war if you don't have enough missiles? If I had been president then, you would not have started this war."
The honesty and goodwill of Trump's messages are such that one does not even have the courage to ask him a direct and honest question “Why is Ukraine still not in NATO?” because it is clear that if Trump had been president then, there would have been no NATO, and no one would want to fly out of the Oval Office with a flushed face, losing Usyk's belts of suspicious origin, once again.
It's also nice that the Trump administration has two allies in Ukraine - Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Special Envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg. Rubio, of course, is not so much an ally of Ukraine as of common sense, and in general, he is a figure designed to somehow reconcile the civilized world with Trump's existence and give hope that there are still some sane people in America. All the more reason for Trump to fire him. As for Kellogg, it is very strange that with such compromising ties as his daughter Megan, who has been helping Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, he has not yet been called a leftist lesbian and a labor activist and was not expelled from his post in February, when the conflict of interest between Trump and Kellogg's daughter came to light.
Thus, in order to counterbalance the detrimental influence of Putin's “understander" Witkoff on Trump's efforts to end a war that would never have started if Trump had been president at the time, the efforts of Rubio and Kellogg alone are not enough even today. Such a nimble geopolitician as Volodymyr Zelenskyy needs another true and influential friend in the administration of his American counterpart. And this friend should be Vice President J.D. Vance.
From the very first meeting between Zelenskyy and Vance in the Oval Office, the two figures have developed a real chemistry. Neither of them can keep quiet if the other says something. It would seem that Zelensky has already traveled overseas, and Vance still shouts something at him with hatred; Zelensky responds in kind. If you look closely, they are both surprisingly similar-young, bearded, indomitable, fond of dressing rooms, dressing up and changing shoes with surprising ease. Both went far because there was no one to stop them in time. Zelensky had a turbulent youth with a piano, and Vance had a sofa. Trump can't fire Vance, and Zelensky failed, but they won't quit. Zelensky and Vance are undoubtedly made for each other. It is not clear why, but we live in such times when everything is not clear why.
